Loud and Clear - Pricing

Many B&B sites fail straight away with their front page as they do not show their rates clearly.  You may think that people want to see pictures of the exterior of the house (they do but not immediately).  They want to see price and availability.

They assume the B&B is clean, modern and serves food!  But they also are possibly searching based on price.  Having your rates on a secondary page involves someone finding the link and clicking.

Many people don't .  Put an attractive image with a banner of your prices in a professional presentation and you will make your visitors site experience more useful and you may get a booking as you have made it easier for them to find your prices.

Twittter for B&Bs

We finished a website for A Kerry Bed and Breakfast lately and they asked me if Twitter was good for their business.  I asked the owner if he had ever used it to which he replied he had no idea about it at all.

So my answer to him was No.

Twitter, Facebook and the myriad of other social media outlets are only useful if you spend time using them properly.  There are good ways to make the best of these.   However just having an account won't transform your life or business.

It sometimes makes sense to pay someone to do this properly as when done well it can yield great benefits.  However it takes a LOT of time to build up friends and a community.

All of these social media resources require sustained regular involvement and for a busy B&B owner this may not be available

Many companies now offer bespoke social media packages and can help you to be visble online with social media.

Quiet Winters - Facebook for B&B

Winters are the quietest time for B&Bs unless there is a festival or event in the area.  This is the time to look at your online planning and see what you could do to improve your presence.

Facebook for B&Bs

It is understandable that you may never have used Facebook before.  However it is now the de facto location for many to be online and they expect businesses to have a business page.

A well designed Facebook page will encourage visitors to come to your business and website to make bookings.  It is worth the time spending time to create a business Facebook page.  Do not use a personal page as Facebook does not allow this.

It is also important to keep it up to date with relevant information and newsy articles.  Many of the more successful B&Bs pay people to do this or use a technically minded relative to help.

Be careful however of what you post and that your message is consistent and professional.

Getting Likes

Here is a way to get Likes on your business Facebook page.  Ask people!

Yes ask friends and visitors who have stayed with you.  Send them an email saying you now have a Facebook page and would love it if they would like it.

Great content on your Facebook page also encourages sharing and follow on likes.  When we are asked how often you should update your Facebook page we say as often as you have useful and relevant information.
